Keeping Active and Connected

Meeko the Therapy Dog

At Guthrie House Care Home, we understand that staying active is essential for both physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why our recreation programme is packed with gentle exercise games, indoor team sports, and fun activities such as skittles and beanbag toss. Every game is carefully adapted to suit all mobility levels, giving residents a sense of achievement while bringing energy and laughter to each day.

Our busy activities calendar goes beyond exercise, featuring themed days, holiday celebrations, and visits from talented guest entertainers. Families are always welcome to join in, helping us build a strong, connected community where everyone feels included.

A highlight of the week at Guthrie House is the arrival of our very special visitor, Meeko, a beautiful Samoyed. Many of our residents once had pets of their own, so spending time with Meeko sparks fond memories and brings immense comfort. Meeko loves to sit quietly by their side, leaning in for cuddles and enjoying gentle strokes. His calm and loving nature lifts everyone’s spirits, filling our home with smiles and warmth each Saturday. We are incredibly proud of Meeko and the joy he brings to our residents week after week.

Our recreation team also ensures that every activity has a meaningful purpose, combining fun with benefits for both mind and body. For example, gentle exercise games are designed to improve mobility and balance, while team sports encourage social interaction and friendly competition. Residents often tell us how these sessions leave them feeling energised, accomplished, and more connected to one another.

Creativity is another cornerstone of life at Guthrie House. Residents are encouraged to take part in arts and crafts, music sessions, and interactive storytelling, giving everyone the opportunity to explore their talents and express themselves. Special themed days, such as seasonal celebrations or cultural events, add variety and excitement to the weekly schedule, ensuring that every day feels fresh and engaging.

Finally, our commitment to community extends beyond our residents. Families are always invited to join in activities, share in celebrations, and spend quality time with their loved ones. Seeing relatives participate in games or enjoy Meeko’s company strengthens bonds and helps create a warm, welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and included. At Guthrie House, it’s this combination of movement, creativity, and connection that truly makes our care home feel like a home.
